Labor Day weekend last year had a special meaning for the Bayfront Baby Place and Karoline and Ben Byler’s family. Bayfront delivered 29 babies between Friday and Sunday morning of that weekend, with six of the 29 belonging to the Byler family.
After weeks spent on bed rest in Bayfront’s antepartum care area, Karoline’s water broke.
Dr. Karen Raimer, perinatologist, and her team of skilled nurses and physicians delivered
the Bylers’ six babies just after 9 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 1.
The five boys and one girl will be placed in the record books as the first set of sextuplets born in the state of Florida. Each of the infants weighed between two and three pounds at birth and are continuing to grow stronger in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at All Children’s Hospital.
The babies; Brady Christopher, Eli Benjamin, Charlie Craig, Mackenzie Margaret, Ryan Patrick and Jackson Robert were delivered about two months early and will probably remain in the All Children’s nursery until sometime in November. When the neonatologists feel the infants are strong enough to begin life without the round-the-clock care provided by the hospital’s nursery, they will move home and take their places as the newest members of the Byler Bunch.
Having a baby can be one of the most joyous and satisfying experiences in life and the unsurpassed obstetrical care moms receive at the Bayfront Baby Place makes it one of the premier childbirth centers in the region. From the most specialized multiple births to the smoothest single deliveries, the Baby Place is the preferred place in our area to bring new life into the world.
Why The Baby Place?
Our facility is one of only 10 Regional Perinatal Intensive Care Centers in the state with a regional Maternal Fetal Medicine program and a Level II Special Care Nursery. As a premier teaching center, Bayfront also has 24-hour obstetrical coverage through graduate physicians in the Obstetrics & Gynecology and Family Practice Residency Programs.
In addition, our close relationship with All Children’s Hospital provides expert neonatal care for babies who require specialized care beyond that available in the Bayfront special-care nursery.
